CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library continued its 50th anniversary celebration with a fashion show, where old and new met on the runway.
Czech & Slovak Echoes in the USA, the museum’s two-week festival highlighting Czech & Slovak culture, includes concerts, baking classes, a children’s exhibit, and on Oct. 29, a fashion show by Czech fashion designer, Beata Rajská.
Rajská has worked with a number of high-profile clients, including Czech First Lady, Eva Pavlová, creating pieces that incorporate traditional folk elements in modern fashion, and uses eco-friendly materials in her collections.
The fashion show at the museum, 1400 Inspiration Place SW, attracted dozens of attendees.

Miss Czech Republic 2020 Karolína Surý modeled several of Rajská’s designs, alongside local women and girls, who also modeled traditional Bohemian, Moravian and Slovakian attire called kroje.
Museum President and CEO Cecilia Rokusek was among the models, as well as several members of Iowa’s Czech Royal Court, including Miss Czech-Slovak Iowa Isabel Sherman.
The museum dedicated its Prague-style astronomical clock in September with the presidents of the Czech Republic and Slovakia as part of its yearlong anniversary celebration in 2024.
