More exciting Earth Week events are being added to the April calendar, with Johnson County’s activities coming up April 23 and April 25, 2013.

Here is more from Becky Soglin, Johnson County Sustainability Assistant:

Iowa City, Iowa – As part of Earth Week activities, Johnson County will host opportunities for making green pledges and learning about home composting. Both events are free and open to the public.

The “Green Pledge Photo Booth” welcomes people of all ages to jot down a green pledge or message on a dry-erase board and have a photo taken in front of a “go green” backdrop. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23rd, in the first-floor lobby of the Johnson County Administration Building, located at 913 South Dubuque Street in Iowa City.

“Food for the Food” will provide all the in-and-outs of home composting on Thursday, April 25th.  The 30-minute outdoor presentation will be offered at 12 p.m. and repeated at 12:30 p.m. The presenter is Scott Koepke, of New Pioneer Co-op’s Soilmates Organic Garden Education Service. The sessions will be held in the employee parking lot south of the Johnson County Administration Building. Session attendees may park in the adjacent public lot.

With support of the Board of Supervisors, the Johnson County Green Team is organizing the events. The team also has planned internal events to promote resource and cost savings such as reducing, reusing, and recycling.
