Outdoor farmers markets in Iowa generally end their seasons in October, with indoor markets closely following behind. Locally grown squash, apples, root crops, such as potatoes and onions, and other produce is still available, along with local honey, meats, nuts, baked goods, handcrafted items and more. The coronavirus pandemic temporarily suspended the opening of outdoor farmers markets last spring, but indoor markets already are on-track to start this fall. Some markets are requiring vendors and customers to wear face masks to help control spread of the virus and at least two are relocating for this season. The Dubuque Winter Farmers Market, […]
Winter farmers markets continue to hold their own in Iowa. The outdoor market season generally ends by the last of October, but by November, the indoor markets already kick in. One change last season moved the long-standing Dubuque Winter Market to a new location. In February, that market opened in its new site in the […]

Now […]
The end of the farmers market season can be a bit depressing for me, but one thing has changed in recent years to serve as a bright spot in these dark days. As our own Iowa gardens near their end, it’s comforting to know that local foods fans can still get their fill at area farmers markets. Markets in Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha, Iowa City and other towns continue to operate, with some running through the end of October. If your travels take you to Belle Plaine, Independence […]

The location is easy to find by following the signs in Springville. There will be live harp music and items for sale include: […]
