CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — One of the most popular attractions in the Mound View neighborhood in northeast Cedar Rapids is celebrating a milestone.
Dairy Queen, 501 16th St. NE, marks its 70th year on Aug. 1, 2025, having opened at its current location in 1955.
“It’s nostalgia,” owner Karla Sibert said of not only the anniversary, but of the DQ site, in general. “It’s the neighborhood atmosphere.”
Sibert, who has owned the Dairy Queen for eight years, said both regular customers and new faces stopped by for the milestone, which featured throwbacks, such as the Mr. Misty Kiss, as well as a limited number of junior cones for free.

Neighbors can easily walk to the shop, as well as students from nearby Coe College and Mount Mercy University.
Hours are noon to 8 p.m. daily, in season.
Debbie Prideaux drove from her home in Marion for a hot fudge sundae.
“I used to come here when I was little and I’m 70 now,” said Prideaux, whose family lived in the neighborhood when she was in school, “so I thought I’d come here today.”
