CEDAR RAPIDS – One of my perennial favorites, the Easter Showcase, is coming up this weekend.

I love seeing a sneak peek of spring inside the Noelridge Greenhouse, where city staff and volunteers start the plants that will be used in Cedar Rapids public parks, as well as the tropical plants that make their home in the greenhouse year-round.

Read on for more from the city about this free event:

The annual Easter Showcase is Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Noelridge Greenhouse, 4900 Council Street NE.

Admission is free. The first 500 children age 12 years and under will receive a free plant.

Visitors will enjoy many educational displays including those by the Eastern Iowa Aquarium Association and the Harshbarger Hosta Society and may see the Easter Bunny when he stops by on Sunday.

Friends of Noelridge will introduce this year’s garden theme for the All American Selection design contest, “Art in the Park.” Read about last year’s contest: Garden contest at Noelridge

Houseplants, honey, handcrafted jewelry and pressed flower greeting cards will be available for sale and donors to Friends of Noelridge will have a chance to win a quilt. Call the Noelridge Greenhouse, 286-5762, for more information.
