IOWA CITY – New Pioneer Food Co-op offers healthy living, not only in its food, but in the options made available to employees and the community.

One such option is happening Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in the annual bike ride from “Old Pi” in Iowa City to “New Pi” in Coralville. Soon, New Pioneer will open a store in Cedar Rapids, so perhaps that will be included in the future.

Here is more about the event from New Pi:

Improve your health, green your footprint, save some cash, and get your head in the clouds with your feet on the pedals! Everyone’s invited to take part in National Bike to Work Week, May 12-16.

A highlight of the Iowa City area’s 2014 Bike to Work Week celebration (full event listing at thinkbicycles.org) is the family-friendly Annual Old Pi to New Pi Ride on Wed., May 14 (rain date Thurs., May 15). The popular fun ride draws 200 and starts at 5:30PM at Chauncey Swan Park (near New Pioneer Food Co-op Iowa City – “Old Pi”), biking as a group to New Pioneer Food Co-op Coralville (“New Pi”). Riders will enjoy refreshments, beer samples (it’s National Craft Beer month as well), and prizes!

New this year: Bike & Biker Costume Contest! Dress up your bike and yourself to compete for the title of Wackiest Bike & Biker! Winning costumed bikes and owners will be chosen by crowd appeal in 2 divisions: Adults and Kids (13 & under). Join the Old Pi to New Pi Ride or meet the group’s arrival at New Pi Coralville about 6:15PM.

In addition to honoring bikers and bike commuters with the Old Pi to New Pi ride, New Pi sponsors Goosetown Racing Club & Team New Pi (local cycling groups), offers a free bike helmet to every staff member, and shower facilities for bike-commuting employees.
