CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — For the second year in a row, rain dampened the Freedom Festival Parade, but showers let up in time for the parade to begin.

More than 60 units were registered for the parade through downtown Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

This was the second-year comeback for the event, which was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Rain may have kept large crowds at bay, but parade entries kept the event lively, including several musical units, and temperatures stayed mild when the storm passed.

The Colt Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps, from Dubuque, joined festivities in Greene Square after the parade with a standstill to offer a preview of their upcoming performance when they will be joined by other corps at the Tournament of Drums. The show will make its comeback since the pandemic on Friday Aug. 5, 2022, at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
