CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The city of Cedar Rapids announced that the Iowa Department of Transportation has denied the city’s application to continue operating its Automated Traffic Enforcement cameras for speeding violations at nine sites, while approving six others.
Under House File 2681, signed into law in May, cities had to apply for a permit to continue Automated Traffic Enforcement programs in their jurisdiction. The DOT announced its decision on the Cedar Rapids application on Sept. 30, 2024.
The city noted that red light violations will still be enforced at all intersections with the automated systems in place, as those violations are governed by Cedar Rapids Municipal Code Chapter 61.138 — Automated Traffic Enforcement. Iowa’s law specifically pertains to the regulation of speed violations only.

the only reason the cameras are there is to increase the income for the city. Pomeranz is deep in the cities pockets as well. . Beware of this city official. How about reducing the property tax Jeff.
Once again, Iowa’s state government hurts the people of the state. Phony reasons to encourage criminal driving behavior.
