CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A change from the usual morning parade gave extra heat to the sweltering afternoon Freedom Festival event in New Bohemia.

As part of a new Patriotic Fest in the New Bohemia area, the 30-minute parade made its way down Third Street SE into Czech Village, flanked by spectators who braved temperatures that climbed into the 90s, with oppressive humidity.

The free Patriotic Fest included hands-on activities, face painting, live performances from the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy and more outside of NewBo City Market.

Upcoming Freedom Festival events include a Tribute to Heroes; pancake breakfast; car show and fireworks on the Fourth of July. The entire festival runs June 26 through July 4, 2025.
