Iowa’s relatively warm weather might not be the best indicator, but winter farmers are already underway in the state.
The last day of the 2026 outdoor season in Eastern Iowa was Oct. 31 at the Iowa City Farmers Market, which held its Halloween at the Market, and in Decorah, which also celebrated Halloween.
Hiawatha held its last market of the season the weekend before, on Oct. 25. Many other markets ended their outdoor seasons in September.
Indoor winter markets offer cold-weather crops such as squash, as well as wine, honey, meats, baked goods, jams and hand-crafted gifts, perfect for the holidays.
Additionally, online markets in Grinnell and Iowa City offer products from local farmers year-round. Find information on both online and indoor markets, below.
