(Updated Aug. 22) Summer isn’t quite over yet, as events scheduled for later this month attest.

The next Downtown Farmers Market in Cedar Rapids isn’t until Sept. 6, but others are ongoing, with most running through the end of August.

See the Homegrown list of markets for details.

This weekend, the Cedar Valley Iris & Daylily Society will hold its annual late summer sale of daylilies on Saturday, August 23, from 9 am to noon.  The plant sale will be held at Riverside Gardens, 441 E. 3rd Street, Monticello.

Named daylilies will be available at reasonable prices.  Some companion perennials may also be available.  Expert grower Zora Ronan – who hosted an open garden at her home earlier this summer – notes that now is prime time to plant daylilies.

If you’re in the Ely area that same day – Saturday, Aug. 23 – check out the town’s Third Annual Garden Tour.

Ali Alldredge notes that the event will start at 1 pm at the Ely Public Library, 1595 Dows St., and finish there for a potluck and tomato sampling at 4 p.m.

At last check, they were still looking for several people to add their gardens to the tour.

Don’t forget, that same day, Brucemore is hosting its annual Garden & Art Show in Cedar Rapids. Find more information here.
