Both the Keystone XL and Bakken pipelines are in the spotlight this week.
Here is info passed along to me today about upcoming events taking place in Cedar Rapids and Coralville regarding the two separate pipelines:
In Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, January 13th, Keystone XL pipeline opponents will express their views by sharing a banner and posters on the 3rd Avenue Bridge in front of the Linn County Courthouse. We plan to meet at 5:00 PM. If you are interested in joining us, please do so and bring some friends. The banner and posters will be available; however you’re welcome to create your own sign. President Obama is expected to VETO the pipeline and we hope to send a message of our support for that action. We will take pictures to forward to Pres. Obama as a Thank You for standing with Americans.
In Coralville on Sunday, January 18th, Andy Pearson of MN350.org & MW Tar Sands Coalition Coordinator will help host a discussion about the Iowa Bakken Pipeline proposal, environmental actions, climate change and effective community organizing. The gathering will take place at the Coralville Public Library at 1:00 PM (1401 5th Street in Coralville).
The session will be very informal and open for discussion of strategies to effectively block this pipeline from being built. Please park in the lower level and enter through the door on the lower level – meeting in Room A.
