CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Four homes that are set to be removed to make way for a tennis facility are being offered free to anyone able to move them.
The Cedar Rapids Country Club will demolish the homes, at 418, 424, 430 and 444 Fairway Terrace SE, all built between 1938 and 1940, if no one comes forward to relocate them.
A fifth house, at 359 27th St. Drive SE, has already been prepared for demolition.
Most of the homes are currently occupied and in excellent condition, with features such as hardwood floors, fireplaces and sunrooms.
Save CR Heritage board members are willing to provide advice on moving a house. While the homes are being offered for free, the cost to move a home, including the move itself, building a new foundation, moving utility wires and tree trimming can run up to $100,000 or more.
Anyone with the financial capacity and a place to move one of the homes can contact Tom Feller at the Cedar Rapids Country Club, (319) 363-9673. The project will be underway in the near future.
