CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Authorities say a juvenile may face charges after the student admitted to making an online threat toward Taft Middle School.

Cedar Rapids Community School District staff alerted police Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, to an online threat toward students and the school at 5200 E Ave. NW.

According to police, investigators were able to quickly identify and interview a juvenile who admitted to making the threats, and following further investigation, it is possible the juvenile may face charges.

The school district intends to hold classes as usual on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

“CRPD and CRCSD staff take threats of all kinds seriously and investigate each instance thoroughly,” a news release from police noted. “Please take a moment to discuss with your student the dangers of making threats and teach them to report online and in-person threats to a trusted teacher, law enforcement officer, or parent.”
