CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — EcoFest, the popular Earth Day celebration in Cedar Rapids, has had its share of lovely spring weather.

This year was not one of them, but in spite of temperatures just above freezing and biting winds, crowds came out on Saturday, April 22, to NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE, where the annual event is held.

Some events, including live music, Iowa State University’s insect zoo and a recycled clothes fashion show, were moved indoors, while nearly 50 businesses, nonprofits and other organizations braved the cold outside.

EcoFest, which started in 2010, features music, local vendors, artists, educational programs and more, centering on environmental efforts.

The annual event was canceled in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and went virtual in 2021, before returning last year.
