CEDAR RAPIDS — The long-anticipated reopening of the Donutland in southwest Cedar Rapids is almost close enough to taste.

With a previous target of late March or early April 2022, the opening of the site, at 2606 Williams Blvd. SW, is now predicted for late April.

Crews have been hampered by weather and other factors, but have finished installing new windows and are nearing completion, workers said this week.

Constructed in 1966, the building is returning to its sweet roots as a Donutland, which occupied the orange-roofed space through 2005 before serving a variety of businesses, including used car sales and a massage parlor.

The return of Donutland will fill a hole for baked treats in the area.

According to its website, Donutland was once a large franchise, but Cedar Rapids is now home to one of the last original Donutlands, which opened at 4307 Center Point Rd. NE in 1971. Another location recently opened at 1681 S. First Ave. in Iowa City, and products are carried at various businesses in Cedar Rapids.

Donutland features more than 40 flavors of donuts, in addition to other menu items.
