Two reminders came my way about upcoming events. You can find these on the calendar, above, as well as many others happening this weekend and in coming days, weeks and even months.
First, the Noelridge Greenhouse will be open this weekend with one of my favorite events: the annual Easter Showcase on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the greenhouse, 4900 Council St. NE. Admission is free. Visitors can see exhibits by the Eastern Iowa Aquarium Association and the Harshbarger Hosta Society. The first 500 children age 12 years and under will receive a free plant. Houseplants, honey, handcrafted jewelry and pressed flower greeting cards will be available for sale. Call the Noelridge Greenhouse, 286-5762, for more information.
Next, Nile Dusdieker sent this reminder about all of the orchid happenings in the next two weeks, including the Eastern Iowa Orchid Society’s part in this weekend’s Easter Showcase:

TUESDAY, April 2: Our meeting will feature guest David Bird from Kansas City with an educational talk on Phragmipediums and many nice plants to buy!
NEXT WEEKEND – APRIL 6-7 – The BIG IILLINOIS ORCHID SHOW at the Chicago Botanical Gardens in Glencoe (North Chicago.)
