Just as the outdoor farmers market season ends in Iowa, the indoor market season begins.

Already, indoor markets have started in West Branch, Waverly, Decorah and elsewhere, while others are slated to start soon.

One notable absence this season is the Mount Vernon Farmers Market, which ended both its indoor and outdoor markets this year after a long run.

Mount Vernon area residents are in luck, though, as two popup markets will be held at the First Street Community Center, 221 First St. E, the same venue as the winter markets.

The Shop Smaller Market will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 and the Cold Moon Market is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.

Katrina Anderson, of Wake Up Iowa Coffee, said both markets will be seasonal celebrations of growing, making and slow living, with vendors that include some of the favorite businesses she’s come to know in her seven years of working markets.

“The Mount Vernon Winter Farmers Market has been a counted-on connection point between growers and small businesses and their customers for years,” she said in an email. “Though our full time markets are on hiatus, I wanted to offer a couple of opportunities for everyone to gather around the holidays.”
