UPDATE: (May 29, 2015) Prairiewoods will accept walk-ins to this June 2 session.

Original post: Prairiewoods in Hiawatha has scheduled a speaker to address natural burials – those that further environmental aims, such as reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources and preserving habitat.

It’s an intriguing topic, but you have to act fast to register, as the deadline is today – May 28, 2015.

Here is more from Prairiewoods about the June 2 session:

You live your life in a way that is eco-friendly, so why should that end when you leave this world? Explore your options for a natural burial in Introduction to Natural Burials on Tuesday, June 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center, 120 East Boyson Road, Hiawatha.

Learn about the history of conventional burial and its environmental impacts, the use of biodegradable and non-toxic containers and shrouds, current Iowa burial laws, and how to communicate your burial wishes to your friends and family.

This is an amazing opportunity to learn from Anne Murphy, a national leader in the home funeral movement. Anne works to bring a hands-on approach to death through education, support and empowerment. She serves on the National Home Funeral Alliance Board and the Minnesota Threshold Network Leadership Committee.

The cost is $15, and registration and payment are required by May 28. Click here for more information or to register.
