CEDAR RAPIDS – Hundreds of people gathered Sunday, June 25, for the closing ceremonies of a national gymnastics competition and festival in Cedar Rapids.

The American Sokol XXIV National Slet and Festival, held June 22-25, culminated in the on-field gala at Kingston Stadium, with choreographed calisthenics, races, a tug-of-war and Czech folk dances that reflected Sokol’s origins in Prague.

Held once every four years, the national Slet was last hosted in Cedar Rapids in 1960.

Gymnastics competitions, with gymnasts of all ages from throughout the United States, were held Saturday at Sokol Cedar Rapids.

The closing ceremonies, which featured hundreds of participants, continued the traditions of family, fitness and fun that have inspired Sokol since its inception in 1862.
