Cedar Rapids can be proud of teen-ager Aaron Bissell, who will be going to Hollywood on this season of American Idol.
Aaron, 17, a senior at Cedar Rapids Washington High School, was shown earning his golden ticket on the show last night (Jan. 21, 2015) from auditions in Minnesota.
Americal Idol judge Harry Connick Jr., bantered with Aaron about playing in coffee houses before handing him his ticket to Hollywood.
Aaron isn’t the only Iowan on the way to California, as 16-year-old Maddie Walker of Ankeny was shown earning her golden ticket last week, from auditions in Long Island, New York.
Another young woman with an Iowa connection is Gabby Zonneveld of Minnesota, whose dad, Dick Zonneveld, is a native of Cedar Rapids and was drum major for the Emerald Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, in the 1980s.
