CEDAR RAPIDS – If you’re a fan of local foods and still not a member of the Iowa Valley Food Co-op, be sure to make it to this upcoming event.

The Cedar Rapids-based co-op, which uses an online ordering system, will have an open house from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at its new location at 201 Third Ave. SW.

Not only will you learn about the co-op and see the new site, but samples from the producers will be offered, including beef, goat, baked goods and cheese.

That’s reason enough to go.

Here is more about the event, from the co-op’s Jason Grimm:

IVFC has been connecting and serving the greater Cedar Rapids with fresh, local foods for nearly 3 years. Over these young years the co-op has seen a growth in membership and introduction of new producers monthly. The co-op now boosts over 70 local producers of meat, produce, staple food items, household goods, beauty aids, and gardening supplies.

Recently the co-op moved with Matthew 25 to their newly renovated space, centrally located in downtown Cedar Rapids. They will gain additional distribution space and easier loading space for producers. In addition to the move, Iowa Valley Food Co-op launched new shopping software. The software makes shopping by product or producer easier. The co-op looks forward to increasing distribution of co-op products by offering pick-up twice a month during the growing season.

Join the members of the Iowa Valley Food Co-op as they celebrate their new location and new software.
