This is still a few weeks away, but it’s going to be a big event, so mark your calendars!
It seems that orchids are becoming more widespread and available just about anywhere. This event can help with any questions you might have about raising these exquisite flowers.

The Eastern Iowa Orchid Society in cooperation with the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce The Second Annual Eastern Iowa Orchid Show and Sale on October 19 and 20, 2013, at the Noelridge Park Greenhouse, 4900 Council Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The show is free and open to the public on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This will be a regional orchid show with flowering orchid displays by orchid societies from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin plus individual and vendor displays. Orchid flowers and entire exhibits will be evaluated by judges from the American Orchid Society.
In addition to beautiful floor and table top orchid displays, a wide variety of orchid plants will be for sale from reputable vendors. These include Anything Orchids, South Chicago; Iowa Orchids from Des Moines, Natt’s Orchids, Naperville, Illinois; Orchid Trading Company, Chicago; and Orchids and Moore, our local vendor. The public is asked to come and vote for the People’s Choice Award for the best orchid display in the show.
Learn about repotting and basic orchid culture at ‘hands on’ lectures given at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. daily. The lecture topics include: Orchids Alive: When and How to Repot Your Orchid: Orchids Alive: Growing Orchids in Pebbles – Semi-hydroponics; Orchids Alive and Well: Orchid Pests and Diseases; Orchids Alive and Blooming: Tricks to Repotting and Reblooming Orchids. The show venue offers a fall splash of color with an opportunity to view exotic orchid blossoms in artistically arranged displays.
