CEDAR RAPIDS – After 16 years in business, Sandy Rosenberger will close shop one final time.

New Bo Mercantile & Vintage Shop, 215 11th Ave. SE, will end its run on Dec. 30, 2017.

Rosenberger first opened her business, Hearthstone Gifts & Supplies, in Marion in 2001. The store carried soaps, do-it-yourself supplies and more.

She eventually relocated the shop to the Cherry Building in New Bohemia and in 2015, moved to her current location in the historic CSPS building, changing the name of her business and adding men’s and women’s vintage and lightly worn clothing.

Customers could find herbs and spices, essential oils, loose-leaf organic teas and even bridal wear among its other mainstays. Rosenberger also served the community as a board member and volunteer for the Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street District and taught do-it-yourself classes.

But retail business has suffered in the face of online sales, she said, noting that some visitors to her store bluntly told her they do all of their shopping on Amazon.

Three other businesses are looking at the space she had been leasing.

Rosenberger said she will look for other employment opportunities and will miss the many customers she came to know through her store.
